2011 Holiday Campaign

Unfortunately, many in our community are unable to provide for their families during the holiday season.  Each year, E/BFSC requests support for those families who would otherwise go without during this season. In 2010, E/BFSC was able to distribute over 2054 toys, books, gift card and other gifts to over 202 families, including 489 children in the community. 35 families, including 206 children, were adopted by area families, businesses and organizations through the Adopt-a-Family Program.  In addition, over 194 families received Thanksgiving food baskets through community donations and E/BFSC contributions.

We hope that you are fortunate enough to participate in E/BFSC Adopt-A-Family program this year. This program matches sponsors who are fortunate enough to give, with families who are in need of support. There are many families of varying sizes with children that range from ages 0-16 years old who require assistance. Please spread the word and team up with your churches, offices, or social networks to support our families in Ward 5 and 6.  

If you are unable to Adopt-A-Family, we also welcome the following items which are given directly to our families:

• Monetary donations: checks or PayPal (www.ebfsc.org)
• New Unwrapped Toys
• Gift Cards
• Thanksgiving turkeys or non-perishable trimmings

E/BFSC Celebrates Families in the Community

On June 23, 2011,  Edgewood Brookland Family Support Collaborative (E/BFSC) held its Annual Family Day Event in the Brookland Manor Community.  Each year, Family Day brings together E/BFSC and CFSA staff, community residents, children and youth, to have fun and enjoy the beginning of summer.  Most importantly, the event provides families with linkages to valuable resources and service providers.  Our Staff along with CFSA staff joined families in the community engage in family fun time.

An array of service providers were present at the event. Over 20 providers offered services and information to the families during the event.  The providers included:

•       Women Collective conducted HIV Testing
•       Healing Hands Massage Institute
•       Washington Hospital Center
•       Early Stages
•       Sasha Bruce Ward  5&6  Prevention Center

Thanks to the United Way, E/BFSC was able to distribute 400+ book bags to the youth who attended. In addition, Capitol Hill Bike Shop donated a bike which was raffled during one of the four raffles conducted. McDonalds, Coca Cola, Ward 6 Waterfront Safeway, and Henderson Photo Group all donated time and goods to the event.

Over 500 families participated in the festivities. Our traditional activities included the moon bounce, snow cone, cotton candy, arts & crafts along with 3 on 3 Basketball. Some new traditions were also started: the Photo Station, Hapmudo Martial Arts Demonstration, the hourly Raffle and Community Line Dancing in the street with the E/BFSC and CFSA Staff.

E/BFSC provides services in Ward 6

As of April 1, the Edgewood/Brookland Family Support Collaborative (E/BFSC) began providing family preservation and supportive services to Ward 6 families as part of the Healthy Families Thriving Community Collaboratives (HFTCC) city wide initiative with the District’s Child and Family Services Agency (CFSA).

 The South Washington/West of the River Family Strengthening Collaborative (SWWR), which formerly provided these services, will no longer participate in the city wide HFTCC effort in Ward 6. 

 E/BFSC has been serving families since 1996 and is well situated physically, structurally and programmatically to ensure that quality services are not interrupted for families in Ward 6 neighborhoods.  Although E/BFSC’s Main office is at 1345 Saratoga Ave., NE; we will partner with long-standing Ward 6 agencies to provide supportive services to families at 3 locations in Ward 6:

2010 Holiday Campaign

It is that time of the year again, when the Edgewood/Brookland Family Support Collaborative (E/BFSC) is soliciting your pledge to support families living in our community during the holiday season.  Due to increasing economic restraints, many families cannot afford to have a joyous holiday.  We hope that you are fortunate enough to make the holidays more memorable for community families by participating in the E/BFSC’s Adopt-A-Family program again this year.

As you know, E/BFSC’s Adopt-A-Family program gives sponsors the opportunity to make the holidays more meaningful for families by matching them with those fortunate enough to give Thanksgiving food baskets as well as toys and clothing for children through our Holiday Toy Store. There are many families of varying sizes with children that range from ages 0-16 years old who require assistance.  Therefore, our goal is to increase the number of families served in 2009 by at least 20%.  We encourage you to spread the word and team up with your churches, offices, or social network to help us reach this goal for families.  

In 2009, thanks to generous monetary donations, as well as toys, gift cards, books and other gift donations, E/BFSC was able to distribute over 1004 toys, books, gift card and other gifts to over 102 families, including 289 children in the community.  35 families, including 106 children, were adopted by area families, businesses and organizations through the Adopt-a-Family Program.   In addition, over 104 families received Thanksgiving food baskets through community donations and E/BFSC contributions.

We invite you to adopt a family again this year; however if you are unable to do so, we also welcome the following items which are given directly to our families based on need:
